The Kavanagh Legacy Programme is a series of discreet projects stimulating fresh perspectives on the life and work of Patrick Kavanagh, one of Irelands most beloved poets, and the significance of his work in a contemporary context. This will be achieved through a number of project strands.

Taking Flight Radio Essays: An ongoing series of broadcast quality essays for radio/online in partnership with RTE Lyric FM. These essays will be devised and developed in collaboration with contemporary artists and thinkers offering fresh perspectives on Kavanaghs writing, philosophy and the milieu in which he lived.  At the beginning of each year new participants are invited and essays broadcast as part of RTE Autumn radio schedule. Project initiated in in 2020. First four essays broadcast in 2021. Four more essays commissioned in 2022.

Original Performance Based on Kavanagh Poem - A Christmas Childhood: Ceol Connected/Thomas Johnston is devising an original performance based work as above for an early year’s audience (4-8) including workshops. In partnership with National Concert Hall and Draíocht Arts.

Stained Glass Commission: Collaboration with Monaghan County Museum as part of Monaghan Murals project. James Earley commissioned to produce mural and stained glass window inspired by Patrick Kavanagh, stained glass heritage in Monaghan and his own family heritage as a descendent of Stained Glass producers. James has produced a design inspired by the elemental nature of Kavanagh.
