Pen Pal Project

This programme would see an engagement of young people (12-15 years) in Carlow County with an exciting and structured workshop about writing. Carlow County Library service would like to start a Pen Pal project with members of Šiauliai City Municipality Public Library (Lithuania).

In 2021 Carlow County library service joined the Naple Sister library programme and established a sistership with Šiauliai City Municipality Public Library NAPLE Sister Libraries is a cooperation programme for public libraries situated in any of the participating NAPLE countries/region that wish to find a partner or sister library in another country.

Pen pals (or penpals, pen-pals, penfriends or pen friends) are people who regularly write to each other, particularly via postal mail. By facilitating this workshop and cooperation, participants will have the opportunity to explore the space and resources the library has to offer while giving the library service an opportunity to directly engage with young people from the community. In addition, Tullow library will foster cooperation links with Šiauliai City Municipality Public Library.

We will provide a free Pen Pal Kit with sheets, envelopes, stamps. We will also run four workshops focused on letter-writing for young people. Workshop duration is 60 mins each and will take place online so the members of the library in Lithuania can join the workshops and form pen-friendships.
