Performing Oriel’s Heritage

This project captures through video, the landscape and selected heritage sites of Louth, with musicians of all ages from the Oriel Traditional Orchestra. The video will be created using ‘The Oriel March’ as the soundtrack and screened to the public and shared with the community. We will further develop the project in the future to include other locations within the region.

The project promotes appreciation of the built heritage of the region and raises awareness of the musical activities and opportunities available to all generations of the community. The Oriel Traditional Orchestra is an award-winning intergenerational cross-border community orchestra that places an emphasis on Irish traditional music repertoire from the region arranged especially for the orchestra.

The project provides a platform to showcase the musical talent of the region and it's interdependence between tourism and heritage initiatives in the region. The video produced will be shared with stakeholders including heritage sites and tourism offices for their use in the promotion of Co. Louth and the surrounding region. The development of awareness of local musical traditions can and will add to cultural tourism in the counties involved.
