Picnic in the Park is being organised by Maynooth Community Council in conjunction with the Climate Action Office in Kildare County Council. This is the second year of the event and offers a fun filled day for the local community.

The Climate Action Office involvement this year is to promote and offer informal consultation on Maynooth having been selected as the Decarbonising Zone (DZ) for the county . The practical experience and knowledge gained will accelerate learning in the county and inform future decarbonization measures.

Leinster Street will be closed to all traffic from 9.00 a.m. until 6.00 p.m. (emergency and local access will be maintained) and local businesses will provide outdoor dining to enable a street feast. You can also bring your own picnic or enjoy food offerings and ice cream from vendors.

As well as important consultation and information, ‘Picnic in the Park’ will also have lots of fun activities for all members of the community including sports, arts & crafts, face painting, a caricaturist and environmental themed performances and workshops. 

Angelina Foster of Blueway Art Studio will be present on the day holding an eco-printing workshop aimed primarily at the younger attendees. Nessa Doran O’Reilly her colleague will hold an Upholstery workshop illustrating how older/outdated pieces of furniture can be up cycled preventing these items ending up in landfill.
