This project is supporting Poetry Ireland’s delivery of their successful Arts Council Poetry Town application which will be led by Kerry Writers’ Museum and St. John’s Theatre & Arts Centre in Listowel. A professional poet will be selected as a poet laureate and after engaging with the local community, will write a poem about the town, which will be revealed at an event during the week and distributed to residents. The poet laureate will also facilitate school and adult poetry workshops, adjudicate a local poetry competition and host and perform at an event spotlighting local poets. There will also be a poetry themed park run and various other events to ensure everyone in the community has an encounter with at least one poem over the course of the week.
