Portumna Courthouse Collective

The Portumna Courthouse is a new rural regeneration project that reimagines the former judicial building as a creative community hub. Since opening in 2025, the Courthouse has welcomed entrepreneurs, creatives and community groups who have activated the space and created a connection point for locals of all ages through a range of activities and events. With a paucity of affordable local venues available for these kinds of activities, the Courthouse has quickly become the first point of contact to host classes, workshops, meetings, gatherings and rehearsals.

Groups who use the Courthouse for their regular programming have been invited to join a Courthouse Collective with the aim of formalising and encouraging sustainable community participation in the future programming of the space. The formation of the Courthouse Collective allows for broad civic engagement through regular programming by and for Portumna residents.

With the support of Creative Ireland funding, member groups of the Collective will be encouraged to host their events and gatherings within the Courthouse and be provided the space rental for free. Hosting these programs in the Courthouse free of charge and increasing the available events for residents will provide cultural connection points that would otherwise not be possible due to financial limitations for space rental in the area.
