Pure Ballina: A Contemporary Street Art Project
In 2023, the town of Ballina celebrates the 300th anniversary of its founding in 1723. In the lead-up to this celebration, Ballina is this year initiating a five year street art project – ‘Pure Ballina’ - in the town. From 2019 to 2023, through a creative collaboration process, facilitated by the committee of Ballina Fringe Festival, the project will feature a number of high quality street artists working with community groups in conceptualising street art that animates the heritage and stories of Ballina across a number of urban sites and unused buildings in the town. The street art project will bring high quality art into a very public realm – bridging the gap between audience and art. Additionally, it will connect marginalised and under-represented community groups with innovative community initiatives and present an opportunity for Ballina’s rich heritage and history to be explored and interpreted through contemporary public art projects in a way that has not happened previously.
