Rathdrum is one of five towns in Ireland which, together with Cork City, formed a partnership to collaboratively examine ways and means to introduce playful elements in their towns which will result in them being more vibrant, liveable and inclusive places. The partnership is funded by the URBACT Programme, the EU’s territorial cohesion programme to support cities and towns with integrated sustainable urban development.
The Playful Paradigm is an innovative concept for promoting social inclusion, healthy lifestyles and energy awareness, intergenerational and cultural mediation, place-making and economic prosperity. Games offer new strategies for engaging city stakeholders in urban development.
For the Playful Paradigm, Wicklow County Council Arts Office in collaboration with Wicklow Sports Partnership; WCC Climate Action Team; the Rural Recreation Officer; Rathdrum Development Association; Community, Cultural & Social Development; and the Heritage Officer have scheduled a bumper two-day programme of activities and entertainment for the children and families of Rathdrum.
Activities are planned to meet the specific needs of children, from young children, to early teens/young adults with ample opportunities provided for participation in events including outdoor games, live music, arts/crafts, a 'green' halloween costume competition and Stop Food Waste.
Families are encouraged to participate along with their children in the activities. All events are free.
