Following on from our popular dlr Scéal Trails outdoor story walks initiative, we are delighted to introduce our first dlr Stair Scéal Trail. This is a way of introducing historical events that have a local flavour and significance, to a wider audience of schoolchildren, families and others living in and visiting Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.

The children's book RMS Leinster - the forgotten tragedy, written by Carmel Uí Cheallaigh, has been converted into a Stair Scéal Trail. It tells the story of the City of Dublin Steam Packet Company steamship, the RMS Leinster, that was torpedoed at the end of World War One, off the coast of Dún Laoghaire, with the loss of 569 lives, including military personnel and civilians, postal workers and crew, from all over the world. The sinking resulted in the greatest ever loss of life in the Irish Sea.

The Stair Scéal Trail will be installed in the grounds of dlr LexIcon in Dún Laoghaire in late February/early March 2023, not far from the site of the RMS Leinster memorial at Carlisle Pier. Workshops for local schools will take place in March 2023.
