Scratching the Surface

We scratch out our secrets, dreams, inspiration, and truth, sending them, like a message in a bottle, hoping it will make its way to whom fate intended. We hope it will further deep our connections understanding, within our growing community. Do you dare write? Do you dare to read? Will it burst your bubble?

Scratching the Surface is a visual street performance that challenges both the participants & audience to look deeper. The performers wear on themselves their thoughts & ideas, handwritten (scratchings) words of meaning & depth, semi obscured by translucent layers.

Costume designer Maeve Ayo will work with Liz Jacob as balloon consultant. Liz is a balloon artist who specialises in large scale decorative & figurative sculptures. Together they will work on the use of balloons as part of a costume structure. A simple scratch on a balloon can destroy it, so the medium may allow the idea of the delicate & the robust to express itself both figuratively & literally.

Kathryn Ketrucceli is the poet and writer on the project. She will be facilitating at least x2 workshops to gather together the words, ideas etc. for the sculpture. She will then be collating all of this into the final presentation/performance of the work which will be devised with Kulwinder (Meg) Bhogal, Máire Daly & the Gliondar stilt walkers.
