Sensory Room at KFest
K-Fest is a festival held in the town of Killorglin to celebrate the arts. The festival started in 2013. Our focus primarily lies on promoting and exhibiting emerging Irish art.
As a family friendly festival, this year the idea has emerged to create a sensory room for children, especially children with additional needs at K-Fest as it is a busy festival and some children may become apprehensive and need somewhere to feel at ease.
This room will be used by children up to 18 years, they can also create art through painting with artist Rochelle Lucey, play music and feel inspired by using their senses like famous artists before e.g. Leonardo Da Vinci who had autism and used art to control his emotions when feeling overwhelmed.
We would like to have an impact mostly on children with additional needs, to show that having additional needs can be artists and inspire them to use their creativity.
The purchases for this project will also be used year-round with the Family Resource Centre giving it value beyond the festival itself.
