Shining a Musical Light
"Shining a Musical Light" is a partnership between Cork City Council, Music In Community, Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, Cork Age Friendly Programme, and Cork Healthy Cities. The project addresses the unique needs of the elderly population by harnessing the therapeutic power of music, bringing a programme of live music performances into residential healthcare settings in Cork City. Music sessions, live performances, and collaborative activities tailored to stimulate memory, foster social interactions, and enhance overall quality of life will be delivered by Music In Community's team of experienced musicians in St. Finbarr's Hospital, Farranlea Community Nursing Unit and Heather House Community Nursing Unit from May to November 2024.
'Shining a Musical Light' will use music as a tool to improve mental health, cognitive function, and emotional well-being among older individuals and will create a sense of community by fostering social interactions and relationships among participants. It will also provide a platform for older people to explore and celebrate their musical preferences and cultural backgrounds.
