Silver Lining Fridays - Virtual Music Appreciation Sessions with the Forget Me Nots Choir
Silver Lining Fridays is a weekly Zoom series, hosted by Norah Walsh and The Forget Me Nots Choir, offering music appreciation sessions for senior community members, providing an educational, social, and inclusive outlet. Hosted by rotating music professionals and experts in senior cognitive health, each session brings variety in topics and presentation styles.
Sessions explore musical genres, eras, composers, performers, instruments, and seasonal themes, occasionally branching into poetry and other arts. Content ranges from in-depth analysis of classical works to celebrating popular entertainers, featuring audio-visual clips, live performances, demonstrations, and guest appearances.
Participants are encouraged to submit questions and suggest future topics, fostering interactive discussion and sharing of personal experiences. Inclusion is central, with open chat, Q&A, and occasional open-mic singing. Special occasions like Christmas, Easter, and St. Patrick’s Day are marked with themed music, poetry, and storytelling, creating a vibrant, engaging experience year-round.
These sessions welcome senior members of the community, vulnerable elderly, and memory-loss impacted families (no restrictions on this). Current participants include members of the Forget-Me-Nots dementia-inclusive choir in Baldoyle, Co. Dublin and the This Is Me choir, Larne, Co. Antrim.
