Six Days
Six Days is a spoken word performance with soundscape and live cello which re-tells the Easter Rising through the eyes of those who took part. Written by Frank Shouldice, author of Grandpa, the Sniper, a memoir of his grandfather’s involvement in the Easter Rising and War of Independence, Six Days centers on Shouldice’s grandfather and namesake, a Ballaghaderreen man who joined the rebellion of the Easter Rising with his brother Jack.
Shouldice is accompanied by renowned cellist Frieda Freytag who composed for this performance.
Their collaboration of art forms thus draws Irish history into focus within an international context and brings to Cavan a unique performance in which the inspirational weaving of word and cello enhances audience engagement by stirring their imaginative consciousness.
Celebrated historian Luke Gibbons endorsed the performance for the way in which it "brings home with unforgettable force a very real experience of history.
