''Something From There'' in Textiles and Poetry
Roscommon Women's Network, through its CycleUp Social Enterprise, proposes Something From There, an intercultural textile and literary residency for marginalised women across County Roscommon. The project delivers a structured series of facilitated workshops combining textile upcycling, weaving and creative writing. Building on their Textile Upcycling Weaving for Wellness model, the programme integrates storytelling and poetry, with participants transforming donated clothing from local charity shops into woven artworks, memory cloths and wearable pieces. Alongside the craft element, facilitated poetry workshops with Jessamine O’Connor will support women to explore identity, migration, heritage, belonging and resilience, “stitching” their stories into words. Participants’ writings will be professionally compiled into a published booklet, creating a lasting legacy and a tool for community engagement and climate awareness. The project supports women experiencing social isolation and limited access to creative opportunities, promotes wellbeing and sustainability through upcycling and circular economy principles, and builds practical textile and writing skills. Drawing participants from migrant, refugee, Traveller and rural communities, the project fosters intercultural dialogue, skills transfer and the visibility of underrepresented voices in Roscommon’s cultural landscape.
