Spent
"Spent" is an ambitious three-part drama series about a group of five college students going camping on the beach area of Enniscrone, Co. Sligo. Their trip becomes an issue of confronting personal challenges and existential questions. The narrative evolves into a serial and abstract exploration of adulthood and decision-making.
Conceived in November 2022 by Stephen Hallinan and Cormac Kilty, “Spent” draws inspiration from the intersection of the natural world with human emotion and thought, reminiscent of the poignant storytelling in "Normal People" and the complex sci-fi landscapes of "The Leftovers". Currently in production, the first episode is complete, with the dedicated team working tirelessly towards finalising the series.
At its core, “Spent” addresses environmental concerns, challenging the notion of individual powerlessness against climate change and advocating for communal resilience. This project represents a bold step for Boom Shaka Media into the realm of online entertainment, embodying a creative fusion of writing and cinematic artistry. It’s a collaborative effort rooted in community, enlisting local support to craft an experimental work that resonates with its audience. “Spent” aligns with the Creative Economy ethos, aspiring to be a self-sustaining enterprise that leverages its artistic integrity for commercial viability.
