St Patricks Brass and Reed Youth Band Lift-Off

Recognising the 137 year long tradition of brass and reed community led band in Balbriggan it is proposed to form a community led youth brass and reed band which would welcome all 8 to 12 year olds from all backgrounds and musical abilities from both new and older communities in Balbriggan. Balbriggan is one of the fastest growing towns in Ireland with a strong multicultural population. 

This initiative will take three years to realise with phase one entitled Proto-Band seeing 8-12 year olds coming together to be introduced to brass and reed band music, music theory and performance through outreach, classes and specialist workshops. The children will work towards a small debut exhibition of skills at a suitable time. The project will adhere to HSE guidelines on social distancing at all times.

This project addresses the themes of community wellbeing and culture, Heritage and Music and is community driven and community led. It is anticipated that 30 to 40 young people will benefit directly from the project, their immediate families 120-160 people and that the wider community will benefit when the band progresses to perform at public occasions, festivals, parades and other community events.
