Stagecraft Youth Theatre in Clonmel took on a project for 2020 to create and curate a series of films for a Creative Ireland project. 'LOL-a short film' was rehearsed with members aged 15-20. With writer Lee Mattison a theatre script was adapted for film and while Covid had prompted a national lockdown the group adapted creatively with ZOOM, a true piece of 'quarantined art'.
'Stagecraft News' ran as a series of short news like elements over the course of 5 weeks. Members aged 9-12, wrote and planned their own news channel focusing on positive, inspirational and uplifting stories and ideas. The series also used animation and editing to heighten the quality and really put the spotlight on young voices.
The biggest production in this programme was the film adaptation of Stagecraft's 20th Anniversary production 'The Fight'. This movie saw 10 principal actors and over 30 minor actors film across 10 locations in a 2 week period. The film was written by the actors who also assisted in the filming and recording process. The group also filmed a 'behind the scenes' documentary to capture the process.
