This proposal seeks to create a series of STEAM engagement opportunities on a community level and proposes to design and deliver several activities based around audience needs, co-creation, STEAM initiatives and traditional facilitator led workshops.
The STEAM in the Community Outreach Programme of Engagement (SCOPE) will offer engagement in community settings in the greater Cork area. This initiative will foster positive attitudes to STEAM and raise awareness of the positive contribution of science and technology to society at a time when opportunities to participate at in person events and activities remain somewhat reduced. Through hands-on, inquiry-based engagement experiences, delivered in formal and non-formal spaces, participants will develop informed, critical, and scientific perspectives and acknowledge the importance of assuming judgments and a respect for facts, accuracy and logic.
This program will develop a series of outreach activities deliverable in a workshop or activity stand format. Content will be based on the themes of marine science, electricity and problem solving blended with a creative output. The workshops will be made available for delivery in community spaces including Cork City Libraries, as a Saturday offering at Old Cork Waterworks Experience and will reach out to other community organisations interested in hosting the activity.
The activity stand format will be delivered at larger scale events
