StrongWomen Science for Wexford Science Festival

StrongWomen Science is a creative circus science show for children and families starring two women scientists turned circus performers. Aoife Raleigh is an engineer, Maria Corcoran an environmental scientist.

They have been commissioned to create and deliver two short digital films on a science theme in a creative way using circus skills to be launched in County Wexford during Wexford Science Festival from the 8th to 15th November.

StrongWomen Science doesn’t only illustrate scientific facts. It seeks to promote enquiry, inventiveness, creativity and accessibility in science, making it open to all, in particular young women and girls. In addition to demonstrating scientific principles in fun, creative and accessible ways, it looks at the worth of failure and the power of teamwork, both shared by science and circus.

To accompany the films each video will also have a downloadable resource document that will allow teachers and parents explain some of the scientific principles that have been explored in the films such as gravity and non-Newtonian fluids. These will help build the StrongWomen Science activities into a lesson of family activity and encourage a wider engagement in Science.
