Táin Tapestry & Táin March Festival

Roscommon County Council is taking part in a collaborative project with An Táin Arts Centre in Dundalk, the Táin March Festival and their organisers, spread across five counties to create a tapestry depicting scenes from the great epic.

The five tapestries have now been created, which, when brought together will show a scene based on each counties geographical location as described in the Táin Bó Cuailgne.

Textile techniques employed in the creation of the Roscommon piece of the tapestry include: needle felting, embroidery, applique, machine stitching, drawing, colouring, dyeing, free motion stitch, along others.

Professional guidance will stipulate suitable display and storage requirements for the Táin Tapestry and the recommended equipment will be obtained.

The five tapestries will be brought together for launch and exhibition in June to coincide with the arrival of the Táin March Festival in Co. Roscommon.

The annual Táin March schools workshop programme will be delivered in Autumn.

Videos produced as part of the Táin March schools programme in 2021 can be viewed on a YouTube playlist ‘Roscommon Schools Óenach - Irish Hero Stories’
