In 1985 the feminist publishing house Arlen House ran a course led by the renowned poet Eavan Boland. At the time it was an innovation: the aim was to encourage women writers at a time when writing was largely a male preserve. The WEB Women Writers' Group, which emerged from the Arlen House initiative, has met continuously ever since.
Keen to celebrate WEB’s work and to honour Eavan Boland, who inspired the group's beginnings, and had a connection with the county of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown; dlr Libraries are delighted to collaborate with these writers and Arlen House to publish an anthology of their work. This anthology will include work in many genres and in both Irish and English, an indication of the extent of Eavan Boland’s influence on contemporary Irish writing.
The book launch takes place on Saturday 16th September at 3.00pm, in dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire.
A programme of events will follow the launch of this publication as we head into what would have been Eavan Boland's 80th year.
