The 17th Percy French Festival

Percy French’s works covered many socio-political concerns, all of which he presented on an entertainment/satire-based platform, our approach to his legacy is unusual. The Percy French Festival provide an annual forum, wherein some of today’s pressing questions can be addressed and discussed in depth with a French eye on matters coupled with a contemporary intelligence, while allowing the maximum possible freedom for speakers to say the things they really want to say. They have adopted French as their mascot of cultural enquiry into current day crises. The format over three days is to have three/four talks in the mornings, with French’s music and songs in the afternoons. It has proved a great success, and because of his extensive travels North and South, they work closely with the North Down Percy French Society, the Festival provides the opportunity for people from all parts of the island to explore a significant but often neglected part of our Anglo-Irish heritage. This year the Festival is addressing environmental issues in conjunction with the Castlecoote Tidy Towns, especially with regards the preservation, maintaining and cleaning of one of our most beautiful and natural resources, the fast flowing river Suck. In addition they will hold talks at the Festival by some of the leading EPA speakers on water quality, water analysis, assessment and reporting of same.
