The Good Old Bad Old Days (site specific theatre in Naas Day Care Centre)

The Good Old Bad Old Days – [working title] is a site specific theatre work written and directed by John Conway, set in in Naas Senior Day Care Centre. The work is founded on John's recent Age and Opportunity Artist in Residence in a Care Setting, during which he engaged with service users to gather local and national oral histories and life stories, to share anecdotes, sing songs, and explore their individual and collective lived experiences as a community united in the centre. This engagement took place over the simple format tea, biscuits, and chats.

The centre is a HSE community day setting for care of senior people, including those living with stroke, Alzheimer's, dementia, and other age related illness. The work, which will be collaboratively developed with service user-participants, and based on their life experiences, will be staged for service users, families, and public audiences.

The work is based primarily on 20+ hours of audio material gathered during the artist's residency. The script will be further developed through collaboration and engagement with service users, resulting in an immersive, contemporary, site specific theatre work, set in the the care setting for a variety of audiences. The formatting and delivery of the work is subject to change due to  social distancing and covid 19 precautions.
