The Gratitude Garden

This Visual Art project brings together the Ballapousta Foróige Youth Club and a Ceramics Sculptor. The site for the finished sculpture installation is the new Ballapousta Primary School and involves the graduate pupils from Ballapousta N.S. This will provide the young people with an opportunity to give back to the community and the school from which they are from.

The therapeutic and sensory experience which clay provides will allow the young people to express themselves and to form connections with each other and their community.

Given that the group have been allocated an enclosed area which will form part of the new school’s garden we would like to begin the creation of a sensory area for the primary school children. The sensory nature of the medium of clay will lend well to some fitting features for the installation.

We have chatted with the young people and all agree a Fairy Ring of brightly coloured mushrooms shall be the main focus of our installation, around which many beautifully fragranced herbs / plants can thrive. We are also exploring building seed and pod shape forms and leaf variety plaques to mount on the walls, either in the enclosed area of the garden or the school itself.
