The History of Objects

‘The History of Objects’ is an artist-lead, audio/visual project documenting the work of the Strokestown House Volunteers as they sift through and uncover artefacts in the House.
The project brings together two well-respected, local artists, Padraig Cunningham and Natalia
Beylis, to create a 15-minute AV piece. Both artists will work in unison to create this new, thought provoking work, over which they have artistic and creative control.
The piece will be created by Padraig Cunningham, artist/filmmaker/graphic-designer. Padraig’s
portfolio includes short films based on the heritage and rural traditions of his locality and his work is often interspersed with snippets from interviews which he has conducted. Padraig will work in a similar style, using onsite-footage and conversations with our volunteers as they unearth these long-forgotten objects, to create an artistic piece that evokes feelings of nostalgia and absence.
This piece will be underscored with a newly created composition by Natalia Beylis,
musician/composer/artist. Natalia will use onsite recordings and acoustic/electronic instruments to create an ambient score, to complement the pace, tone and emotions contained in Padraig’s film. The work will be shown in our Vaulted Stables Event Space as part of Culture Night 2024 and during Heritage Week as part of special tours of the House focusing on unseen areas/artefacts and efforts to preserve them.
