The Importance of Monuments or How to Use Monuments for Good & Evil

The exhibition Empty Columns are a Place to Dream, shown during Birr Vintage Week & Arts Festival 2021, has continued to make waves. Join us for this fascinating book launch, talk and exhibition from St. Brendan’s Community School students. The sixth year art class will create collages in response to the original exhibition that will be exhibited around Birr that examined the meaning of monuments, reimagining them as sites of truth and reconciliationThis event celebrates the further developments from the original International Collage Exhibition, curated by Ric Kasini Kadour in which 18 artists responded to the empty column in the centre of Birr and examined the meaning of monuments, reimagining them as sites of truth and reconciliation. The exhibition has since been shown at the Knoxville Museum of Art and has inspired a book.

The book is available through birrvintageweekarts@gmail.com and has a bonus feature that a selection of the collages animate through the Artivive AR app on your phone. Bookings can be made here
