This project will see an open invitation to 'new' (er) citizens of Kilkenny, with a particular focus, but not exclusively, on the Ukrainian and South Sudanese communities. It will involve a series of dance and vocal workshops with John Scott who has a long track record of community-based dance projects along with David Brophy.
The work will be presented to audiences at Kilkenny Arts Festival 2023 and will be artistically driven by the participants themselves. The final work will be staged/shown as part of the 50th Edition of the Kilkenny Arts Festival.
Over the course of November/December 2022 and spring 2023 participants will be invited to open workshops in movement with John Scott and a rotation of dancers from Irish Modern Dance Theatre. The workshops will be dialogue based and seek to express personal stories through movement.
The aim of this process is to enable and empower a diverse cohort of people in Kilkenny to express themselves creatively, to have their creativity valued and supported through key professional practitioners and for all citizens in Kilkenny to see their creative work in this context.
