Over the past number of months artist Rachel Uí Fhaoláin has been visiting (virtually) with residents in Nursing Homes in Co. Galway. This phase of the project was supported by Galway County Council. Through this project she is recording, archiving and sharing the songs, stories, folklore, customs & traditions and oral history collected from the elders in nursing home communities in Ireland.

The richness of the material that residents shared with Rachel is invaluable and could contribute significantly to her ongoing work with primary school children. Stories told range from descriptions of school days, the open fire, the pony & cart, going to the well for water to rural electrification.

This next part of the project will see all this rich material that has been collected edited into videos and will be shared back into the communities.
