This is an original play written and performed by members of the SUSO Refired Choir, a group of 20 retired women who sing together. This project began in 2022, funded by Creative Ireland Kildare, and was first screened in October 2022. It was greatly received by the audience and multiple requests for repeat performances were made.
We applied for funding to further develop this work and expand on it. Currently this is a 60 minute play about the lives of women. It is based around a choir rehearsal where a new member has shown up and the choir director is running late. The play centres around the conversations the women have about their lives and experiences, interspersed with songs that reflect the topics. It is funny, poignant, emotional and deeply moving. Covering topics such as career, politics, marriage, domestic abuse, family, friendship and fun, it really gets to the heart of life experience and a deep well of knowledge and wisdom from these ladies.
Show will be launched in The Moat Theatre, Naas and then we hope to tour it to a number of women's sheds, ICAs, women's groups and anywhere else that would like to have us.
