The Second Chamber
‘The Second Chamber’ is a documentary film produced by IWR Media for TG4 which explores the possible existence of an undiscovered second chamber in Newgrange, Neolithic site. This documentary sets Newgrange in its historical and cultural context, tracing the development of chambered cairns from Sligo, through Loughcrew to the Boyne Valley in Meath and Knockroe in Kilkenny. A sequence in the film featuring the Neolithic site of Carrowkeel with its distinctive hill top cairns, will include an interview with Archaeologist Robert Hensey who has studied this important site over many years. The documentary will screen to a national audience on TG4, with an anticipated broadcast date in Spring 2023.
In addition to the production, IWR Media will host a documentary production workshop for young filmmakers in Sligo, engaging with interested young talent from the local community. Further information about this workshop will be published closer to the time.
Project partners include the Office of Public Works, the National Monuments Service, the Heritage Office’s of Kilkenny and Meath county Council’s and the Braodcasting Authority of Ireland.
