The Waxed Lemon is a new independent literary journal that will be launched in autumn 2020. The journal will provide a publishing platform for the many and varied writers currently working in Waterford and Ireland.

The co-editors of The Waxed Lemon are Joanne McCarthy and Derek Flynn.

Joanne McCarthy is a poet and spoken word performer in Waterford city. Her poetry is published widely and is forthcoming in the Stony Thursday Book and the Stinging Fly. She holds a M.Phil in Geography and writes about people and place in both English and Irish. She is currently working on her first collection.

Derek Flynn is a writer and musician with a Masters in Creative Writing from Trinity College, Dublin. The author of four novels – as well as a number of plays – he is also a regular contributor to Writing.ie, where he writes his “Songbook” column.

The journal will publish poetry, short stories, flash fiction, photography and art. The Waxed Lemon welcomed submissions from Irish writers during the month of June 2020, with the intent of showcasing their work. Derek and Joanne will edit, finish and launch the printed journal in October 2020.
