The Wexford – Newfoundland Connection
There was a sustained migration of people from the Southeast of Ireland to Newfoundland since the late 19th century. Various Irish communities settled in rural, isolated coves where they preserved the speech, dialect, song, music, folklore, built heritage from County Wexford.
This project aims to capture these connections through a series of films based on a large body of film and photographic material recorded in the rural communities along the Cape Shore in Newfoundland and across County Wexford.
Presentations on the series of films will be held in libraries and schools across County Wexford during the month of October.
