The Wishing Tree
The Wishing Tree is a symbolic, interactive community art installation designed to unite the diverse voices of Roscommon through shared hopes, dreams, & aspirations. Led by the Young Carers, this project will foster creative engagement and highlight their often unseen yet invaluable role in supporting & connecting the community. The project will see Young Carers collaborating with a wide range of community groups—including schools, elderly support networks, disability advocacy organisations, cultural & heritage groups, & marginalised communities. Each participant will be invited to write their personal wish on waterproof paper or material designed by the young carers which will then be placed on The Wishing Tree, forming a collective expression of hope and unity.
Wishes will reflect the county’s cultural diversity, weaving together a tapestry of personal narratives while preserving the tradition of storytelling in a contemporary form.Supporting creative talent development and sustainability: Young Carers will take on leadership roles, gaining valuable creative and organisational skills while facilitating intergenerational learning. Promoting inclusivity and accessibility in cultural experiences: Open to all, The Wishing Tree will be a free, public artwork that ensures participation regardless of age, background, or ability. The culmination of the project will take place at Christmas, a time of reflection hope, and togetherness.
