Threads of Friendship in Action
Threads of Friendship in Action is an outreach and development programme for New Ross’s famous Ros Tapestries. Using the new Threads of Friendship tapestry that is currently being stitched, the present group of stitchers will provide workshops demonstrating the skills of tapestry making to new stitchers. Additionally, a series of lectures, information sessions with schools and community groups, and an exhibition of the tapestries will develop new, strong connections with the work for different Wexford-based audiences and visitors to the county.
The existing tapestries depict Wexford stories and history such as the Norman invasion and the emigration from New Ross port to the United States and Europe. As well as skills and information sharing about the ancient craft of tapestry stitching and needlework, Threads of Friendship in Action will emphasise the important place the Ros Tapestries have in the national cultural and craft landscape, and provide opportunities for audiences to delve deeper into the stories and history of New Ross throughout the ages.
Information sessions will be held on the Threads of Friendship in Action project including a viewing of the tapestries at the stitchers' workshop: 4 The Quay, New Ross on the following dates:
