Tionscadail Logainmeacha 2025
This project is a collaboration between the archivist, Oifigeach Gaeilge, Arts Office and Placenames Committee. It aims to introduce primary school children to their local placenames and to give them the opportunity to research and record the history of placenames in their area. It has been extremely successful over the past number of years.
This year, the aim is to extend the project by offering a Placenames Roadshow, whereby the team would offer once-off visits to communities to share with them placenames information gathered to date, and to gather new information on placenames from the community. We propose to organise two such community visits for 2025 as a pilot for this model of delivery.
This will act as both a celebration of placenames and a data gathering exercise. Any additional data gleaned through the roadshows will be added to the placenames map (available online) and also to the record in Waterford City and County archives.
