'Umha Aois', Irish for Bronze Age, rediscovering our Bronze Age ancestors casting methods.
Using the ancient techniques of clay and stone moulds, workshop participants will learn about the technologies and the materials used in casting Bronze Age objects. They will learn how to make two piece molds in both stone and clay, use crucibles to melt metal, learn how to make pit furnaces with a view to casting bronze objects like prehistoric tools and medieval jewellery. All activities are supervised by highly experienced staff.
Umha Aois are holding a week long bronze casting workshop at Coolattin Studios, Shillelagh from 4 to 11 September. 2021.
