Vernacular Architecture of Offaly - Derrybeg Thatch
When this 1800's property was purchased by the current owner, it was in a derelict state with the roof and much of the walls collapsed. Since then the owner has re-built the walls and roof. In 2021 whilst clearing the site, the owner discovered the original gate and pillar which were restored to their former glory and re-instated with thanks for Creative Ireland.
This Autumn, the focus is on applying a much needed layer of thatch to build up the roof.
