Wainfest Children’s Arts and Book festival took place over 9 days in October. The festival which is organised by the Culture Division of Donegal County Council is fast becoming the highlight of the cultural calendar in Donegal. The theme of this year’s festival was ‘Expect to Connect’. The festival provides opportunities for children, their teachers and families to connect with reading, culture, the arts and heritage. The festival sets out to explore and open up exciting spaces between literature, theatre, puppetry, arts, storytelling, technology, nature and science. It is through experiencing culture and the creative process that a child’s eyes are opened to creativity and their potential for being creative is released. There is no doubt that Wainfest provides a range of opportunities for a child to be engaged in the creative process.
Donegal County Council believes that promoting and supporting the arts, culture, heritage and language is good for our society, our economy and our national identity both at home and abroad. At the heart of the Culture Division is an instinctive desire to inform, nurture and inspire, this is especially true when it comes to children.
