West Limerick Resources will collaborate with West Limerick Ability Network (WLAN) to enhance the visual narrative of the Desmond complex. This creative social endeavour will provide an innovative outlet for people with profound disabilities within the community. “Building Connections” will be an engaging visual enrichment of the area for all users of the Desmond Complex and help foster a sense of pride and place within the community for all of those involved.
The mural will be a mixture of traditional materials painted by community groups, and include aspects of ceramics, clay and mosaics that can be created at WLAN daycare centres by participants with disabilities and attached to the wall. This allows the project to be inclusive and tailored to individuals’ abilities. As well as WLAN, all the users of the Desmond complex will be invited to input their ideas during the initial public consultation to explore the theme “Building Connections” on March 30th. Following this, a series of workshops to create the individual elements will be held from May to July 2023 with the view to complete the finished mural by October/November 2023.
