“Where’s the I in Ireland?” is an ongoing multidisciplinary art project originally devised by artist Felix Power. The project is built around community engagement, social inclusion and accessible creative expression, using participatory art practices to explore identity and belonging.The core of the project revolves around a meticulously curated 90-minute live event that blends aspects of arts-based research with joyful opportunities to reflect on feelings around identity, place and Irishness – themes that are often charged and divisive in current public discourse. It tackles these themes in sensitive, creative and non-judgemental ways, only ever asking participants to describe their own feelings and experiences. At each live event, up to 40 participants are guided through a reflective creative process to record their individual feelings on bespoke A3 survey cards. Each card contains questions such as “Who are you?” and “When do you feel most Irish?” alongside imaginative prompts involving poetry and metaphor. During these exhibitions, surprising and fascinating comparisons and differences between diverse experiences foster empathy and encourage conversation - spreading the reach further into the community.
