Where we Are -Exploring Identity and place using Documentary Photography

This practical experiential creative workshop will explore photography as an exciting creative medium for engaging young Ukrainian people to explore their new local community. Photography can provide an amazing creative lens for young people to explore themselves and their world. Using the camera as a tool for self-exploration a deeper understanding of their own identity and their place in the community will be achieved.

The aims are to help young people to integrate into their new community, express their feelings and be included socially. This workshop provides ways to build a sense of community and belonging by supporting young people to share experiences with each other, build relationships and create something new together. By creating work in Mullingar, about Mullingar it will deepen their community involvement and hopefully lead to new connections in their new community.

Emma O’Brien is the lead artist and organiser of the Project she will work in partnership with Ukrainian Community Mullingar to deliver the project.  Recruitment of participants will be carried out by Jurgita Stuckaite, volunteer with the project.  Exhibition Space will be organised by community group with Emma O’Brien. Jurgita will be present at the venue throughout the project and will accompany the group on photo walks along with project Lead Emma O’Brien.
