Wildflower Wake
It’s the early 20th Century and Irish futures are bleak. Nineteen-year-old Katherine lives in rural Ireland. Tomorrow, Katherine leaves for America. Tonight, she whispers goodbye to her simple Irish girlhood ... and her girlhood stares back, in the form of her gentle 13 year-old sister, Ellen, reminding her of every part of herself that she is leaving behind.
Wildflower Wake is a short film that has been brewing inside local film-maker Regina de Faoite for years. It's about Irish emigration and the untold stories of the thousands of brave Irish women who left their rural Irish girlhood for a terrifying American womanhood.
Written by Regina de Faoite and produced by Laura Devereux.
