Youth Project Engaging with West Cavan ancient landscape
The inspiration for this project was the pottery recovered from the ancient burial mounds in the vicinity of Killinagh during the nineteenth century railway development and mid-twentieth century road works. Children from Scoil Naomh Padraig, Killinagh and Curravagh National School, Glangevlin worked with visual artist Jim Fee and local creative writer Bee Smith. The children were encouraged to engage in poetry and creativity writing and even tried the ancient script of Ogham. The Schools visited Cavan County Council Museum to examine the original Bronze Age pottery and other ancient artefacts. This visit to the Museum informed their pottery workshops where they re-created these artefacts.
