These newly-established Fulbright-Creative Ireland Fellowships – short-term research fellowships for Irish postgraduate students at three of the United States’ top museums – have been made possible under the Creative Ireland Programme in a joint collaboration with the Fulbright Commission.
The three exciting fellowships are San Francisco’s Fulbright-Creative Ireland Museum Fellowship: Exploratorium; Austin’s Fulbright-Creative Ireland Museum Fellowship: Harry Ransom Center; and Washington DC’s Fulbright-Creative Ireland Museum Fellowship: The Smithsonian.
With The Exploratorium’s mission to create a culture of learning through innovative environments that help nurture curiosity; the Harry Ransom Center’s aim to give insight into the creative process of writers and artists and further the appreciation of literature, photography, film, art, and more; and The Smithsonian’s standing as the largest museum complex in the world and a leader in spreading and democratising knowledge through collections, facilities and expertise – the future Fellows are sure to enjoy an incredible academic experience.
Irish or EU citizens resident in the Republic of Ireland for three or more years are eligible to apply to complete postgraduate research at these institutions for a period of four months to a year.
The inaugural Fulbright-Creative Ireland Fellows Sally McHugh and David Stone begin their 2018-2019 research collaborations this term, participating in the prestigious Fulbright Programme which has been essential to transatlantic collaborative research for more than 60 years.
To apply for 2019-2020, simply ensure that submitted research projects demonstrate a commitment to innovation and creativity, and include considerable community engagement. The closing date for applications is 6 November 2018.
