Pride in Our Peatlands / Bród as ár bPortach

Two Kerry artists, along with the Kilcummin community, explored climate issues through the media of art, writing, and photography, with the culmination of this process shown in a community exhibition that showcased the transient nature and culture of our bogs.

Funded by Creative Ireland Kerry and organised through the Environment office of Kerry County Council, the artists Zoë Uí Fhaoláin Green and Emer Fallon spent time with groups of students from local primary schools hosting creative sessions.

There was a guided Biodiversity tour of the bog, where participants shaped a map of Kilcummin bog with place names and paintings of wildlife using all in natural paints and inks. At the closing exhibition all creations were displayed including, Cyanotype prints, clay imprinted with the natural flora of the peatlands, curlews painted with natural inks, and a wishing tree that attendees were invited to hang messages of their hopes and wishes for the bog’s future.
