The Young Print Collective

The Young Cork Print Collective is a group of artists from migrant, refugee or asylum-seeking backgrounds. The artists share their unique perspectives, expressing feelings of duality and otherness, and their experience of connectedness through their artwork. Working in screen-print, etching and relief processes, they work through themes of identity, culture, perception and belonging.

In 2021 Cork Printmakers and Cork Migrant Centre identified a need for continued support of older teenagers and/or young adults from migrant, refugee or asylum-seeking backgrounds who have displayed exceptional creative talent, but who were not served by existing programmes.  This project provides training and mentorship to up to eight artists in all areas of printmaking and professional creative practice. The three-year project addresses this need to foster creative talent in a sustainable, long-term and integrated programme.

The artists develop their work with the support of Cork Printmakers staff and tutors through ongoing training and independent practice. They are integrated into the professional artist studio setting. The group produced their first group exhibition at Nano Nagle Place Print Gallery in October 2022 and developed and delivered an outreach programme of workshops and performances alongside the exhibition. They will continue to develop their practice and skills in printmaking and their experience as artist facilitators throughout 2023/2024.
