Cork Cultural Companions is an initiative that supports older people to engage with arts and cultural events in a welcoming, inclusive way. This programme connects individuals who may feel isolated or face barriers to participation with other adults aged 50+ who accompany each other to events. Trained volunteers from within our membership act as Meet and Greeters to welcome members at a dedicated meet up place prior to the selected event.
With local networks of members in Cork city, Mallow, Bantry and East Cork, the initiative offers relaxed and welcoming opportunities to attend concerts, exhibitions, theatre, festivals and local creative activities. It is open to older adults, people living alone, those with additional needs, and anyone who would benefit from shared cultural experiences.
Through partnerships with local arts organisations, venues and communities, Cork Cultural Companions helps create meaningful social connections while promoting access to high-quality cultural experiences.
The programme aims to reduce social isolation, build confidence, and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to take part in our county’s vibrant cultural life.
