This community-led project will support residents of housing estates in Macroom to create greener, more biodiversity-friendly neighbourhoods. Working alongside a qualified ecologist, newly formed residents’ groups will take part in workshops and practical activities that build knowledge, skills, and confidence to manage shared green spaces in ways that support nature.

Residents will learn about biodiversity-friendly practices such as reducing pesticide use, planting for pollinators, and allowing areas to grow naturally, helping to create healthier and more vibrant local environments. The project aims to strengthen community spirit, increase awareness of biodiversity, and foster a greater sense of pride and wellbeing among residents.

Taking place over 12–18 months in Macroom, Cork County Council’s Decarbonising Zone, the initiative will create a model for community-led biodiversity action that can be replicated in towns across Cork County.
