Before the Voices Fade: An Oral History of Camden Fort Meagher
Camden Fort Meagher is a landmark rich in military, cultural, and social history. While its physical structures stand as testimony to the past, the voices and memories of those who experienced Camden Fort Meagher in the past offer an invaluable resource to preserve.
This oral history project seeks to capture personal stories, lived experiences, and community connections to the Fort before they are lost to time. The project will not only document the past but also strengthen the Fort’s role as a space of heritage, memory, and community identity.
The project will create new heritage assets for the Fort in a way no other methodology can, by saving its remaining living history before it is lost forever. The oral history project will focus on the various organisations who trained at the Fort in the 50s,60s and 70s.
The main aims are to:
- To record, preserve, and share the lived experiences of people connected to Camden Fort Meagher.
- To create a resource that enhances interpretation, education, and visitor engagement.
- To foster community involvement and encourage intergenerational dialogue.
- To gather material (audio, transcripts, artefacts, photographs) that will create future exhibitions.
